To say I love the Planetary series is an understatement. The storytelling is phenomenal. The artwork is top notch. It was never planned to be an on-going series, but I would love to see further stories (should the creative team ever decide to return to the universe). This edition collects everything in one volume. EVERYTHING. Even the "Planetary Preview" issue, which was a bagged promotion with some Wildstorm books months before #1 hit the shelves. (It is placed after #12 in the Omnibus, as opposed to after #6 in "Volume" collected editions). It also includes the three Planetary crossover books (Two are in-continuity, One is a "what-if" Elseworlds book. These are included at the end of the book, after the final issue of the series - #27). These crossovers have already been collected in their own volume, but were notoriously absent from the "Absolute Planetary" mega-collections. I believe the Preview issue was also absent, but I will confirm that when I check my Absolute Planetary Vol.1 and Vol.2 books. Will update review if I find the otherwise.Planetary #1-#27Planetary PreviewPlanetary/Authority: Ruling the WorldPlanetary/JLA: Terra OccultaPlanetary/Batman: Night on Earthcovers of all issues listed abovecovers of all collected editions (volumes, absolute editions)script for first issueconcept artworkearly promotional pageWorth every penny.

This book is by far one of the best values you will find on amazon. At over 900 high quality pages expertly reprinted you cannot go wrong. John Cassady's art is absolutely beautiful in every panel and is probably the high point of the entire series. Warren Ellis has the unique gift of telling an entire interconnected narrative through single issue contained stories that wrap up neatly within themselves but are pieces of a larger puzzle. He also has a way of making the threats faced seem very dangerous therefore when the action happens it has a heavier feeling of consequence. If I had to say anything at all negative it is that I didn't find the characters very likable in a way that one would feel a personal connection with them, which is what I feel seperates really good stories from truly great stories. But all in all this is truly a beautiful book and a great addition to any collection.

Warren Ellis is the guy that the really hardcore comic fans read. He's the author of the stories that people love to the point that they don't feel they need to talk about. If you read it, you know, if you haven't then you need to. Planetary is the story of Elijah Snow and the mysterious organization Planetary, and their adventures into a world filled with wonder, intrigue, and danger. I will reveal no more than that, seeing as the story is so tightly woven and every little thing ties back to a big plot point.Planetary manages to fuse elements from nearly every worthwhile mainstream comic ever written while making what it takes feel fresh and utterly new. John Cassady draws the hell out of this book, making it one of the most visually stunning comics I've ever read. The binding is solid, thankfully not feeling cheap. I can't attest to how it will hold up to multiple readings, but so far so good. The assorted collections of this series have disappeared into the labyrinth of third party sellers for hundreds of dollars each, so this omnibus gives you the most bang for your buck, by far.Planetary is a masterwork of a peerless author, illustrated by one of the best artists in the business. The book itself is well constructed. The story is essential reading for anyone claiming to love comics. It is priced to move, being $47.73 as I'm writing this. This is an amazing story, for an amazing price. An absolute buy.

If you've heard of Planetary, then there's really no need for you to read this review. Planetary is one of the must-read books to have come out in the last 25-30 years as writer Warren Ellis and artist John Cassady deconstruct 75 years of superhero mythos, creating at awesome book that simply will not release your attention until you've reached the end.If you've not heard of Planetary, then let me fill you in a bit. It's a strange world, and the Planetary group intend to keep it that way. Elijah Snow is a cranky old man with a bad disposition and control over cold. When I say old, understand he's been around for 100 years and looks no older than 40. He's living in the desert and wants no contact with anyone. Which, naturally, is when adrenaline junkie/indestructible woman Jakita Wagner and the Drummer, a possibly psychotic information savant, decide to drop in and recruit him to join their organization.Planetary exists to document the strange and improbable in their world. The stories begin as simple done-in-one tales of different genres (kaiju monster movies, Hong Kong action flicks, the Hulk) that require the attention of the three Planetary agents. However, over the course of the series' 27 issues, that changes into much more of a long-form story about the Planetary organization defending the world from a vastly more powerful, sophisticated and ruthless rival organization that will seem very, very familiar to anyone who has read comic books in the last fifty years. This is a tremendous read, with amazing pictures that you NEED to have.

I saw a review for this series on YouTube that really got my interest. I read a lot of comic books as a kid featuring masked heroes and sort of lost interest in them as I grew up. This series takes all kind of characters from pulp and comic media and mashes them up. The art is often stunning, and changes tone depending on the subject matter issue-to-issue.If you’ve never heard of Planetary, I guess the most basic way to describe the concept as somewhere between The X-Files and The Watchmen. My only complaint about this beautiful omnibus is that the pages are a bit glossier than I’d prefer. It makes the art pop, but sometimes makes reading a little harder than it could be if the pages had been matte or newsprint.
